Units refer to enzyme activity defined by the amount of substrate that a unit of specific enzyme will break down per unit of time according to the United States Pharmacopoeia (UPS) and the Food Chemicals Codex (FCC).

The enzyme preparations are derived from non-animal sources and do not contain artificial colours, flavours or sweeteners, preservatives, chemical additives, wheat, yeast or animal derivatives.

The enzymes used in IB-Relieve are carefully prepared to ensure the maximum possible activity. This is achieved through strict quality control procedures including raw material assays to verify activity. The enzymes are pharmaceutical grade and contain no mycotoxins, fungi or other contaminants and no magnesium stearate has been used during processing.

The enzymes used are derived from non-animal sources and are blended to remain active throughout a pH range of 2-12. This means they retain their activity in the acid conditions of the upper and the more alkaline conditions of the lower gastrointestinal tract.

Another consideration in choosing the right blend of enzymes is to utilize enzymes that are active at body temperature. This is an important but often overlooked factor in enzyme preparations. For example, a protease may have an activity of 60,000 units but only at a temperature of 25ƒC. At 37ƒC (body temperature), the same enzyme may only have an activity 2,000 units, if any at all. The units used to describe the activity of the enzymes in IB-Relieve have been normalized to show their exact activity at 37ƒC, human body temperature.

IB-Relieve is a potent blend of enzymes without protease. Therefore it can be used as a suitable digestive aid for patients with gastritis, gastrointestinal ulceration and irritable bowel. It also contains herbs that help repair and restore damaged and inflamed intestinal walls.

Apple pectin contributes soluble fibre to add bulk to the stool and control motility.

Hesperidin is the major bioflavonoid of oranges and lemons. It inhibits the release of histamine from basophils.

Green Tea Extract reduces histamine release and is useful in preventing the symptoms of food allergies. It promotes the activity of naturally occurring anti-oxidant systems (e.g. Glutathione Peroxidase) and with hesperidin decreases the leakiness of blood vessels in the bowels.

L-Glutamine is an excellent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant for the G.I. Tract.
